Human Centered Apps
We are a small software company that’s been around since 2015. We are a Salesforce® ISV partner for our product RollCall. While HCA exists as a separate company, our CTO and CEO are part of Deep Why Design and stay closely involved with our client’s real experiences and needs. All of our work has grown out of the actual requests and real-world staffing for the small and midsized organizations we support.
The two people at the helm have a combined half century of software creation and maintenance expertise in enterprise and software as a service environments. We both have long histories of inventing and creating solutions that go to market or get launched in large internal ecosystems. We’ve both built software solutions that we had to maintain, support, and evolve over many years. And we both know what it’s like from inside the organization, tasked with implementing software or dealing with user requests in complex enterprise environments with a lot of pressure to move quickly.
So we figured we’d build technology tools we’re proud of for the people we care about the most and commit to keeping our pricing focused on affordability and sustainability. HCA exists so that we can provide excellent quality software that you enjoy using and that can help you deliver better solutions to your end users.
Patricia Holliman
Founder, CTO, and creator of the Framework
It doesn’t make any sense to me that we are still approaching application building in the same way - or an even less efficient way! - as we did 40 years ago. Sure we have more libraries and languages and tools and tutorials, but we still expect someone to sit down, learn an arcane syntax or three to speak to the computer so it does what we want. In the 21st century you should not have to learn a coding language to produce a functional business application any more than you have to learn HTML to produce a beautiful website. Particularly for a system like Salesforce, which has done so much to put tremendous power in their administrators’ hands, it doesn’t make sense that the same admin has to learn a variety of programming languages to produce a more complex user experience.
My fascination with the patterns and repetition of coding led me to embrace functional Javascript to construct a flexible, dynamic system that’s as adaptable as Salesforce itself. The Framework is on its 4th version, with more to come in usability and power. If you want to understand what is under the hood or the possibilities we see for this tool, get in touch!

Jenn Taylor
CEO and original creator of RollCall
I’ve been creating technology solutions for a few decades now, wiring together existing tools with bits of code to craft integrated systems that support complex business needs. I’ve done my share of programming, and I’ve built software that became a legitimate, lasting product. I think of myself first and foremost as a solutions designer, using whatever is around me, accessible, and maintainable to craft systems that are more than the sum of their parts.
With that background, I’m not above building if no tool exists or if adapting an existing tool is less efficient than rolling my own. If it becomes worthwhile, I look to the real programmers like Trish make it more robust and scalable. That’s what happened with RollCall. I’m thrilled that it has gained traction and proud to support the RollCall community of users by continuously improving the product.
Trish introduced me to the Framework many years ago, and I started building with it for my consulting clients. It gave me options I never had before, to design and deploy custom user experiences without coding or asking a programmer to get involved. I started solving complex user experience problems in about 1/10th the time and budget and jumped at the chance to try to share this product with a broader audience.
For me, HCA is all about delivering superior tools to the Salesforce® ecosystem. Whether that’s a superior tool for taking attendance or a superior tool for building custom UI, if we can solve the problem in a generalized, maintainable way that legitimately provides unique value, it’s what we’re here to do.
Talk to me about anything at all to do with HCA, Deep Why, or enterprise solutions for nonprofits.
